چکیده

A punctuated equilibrium model of biological evolution with relative fitness between different species being the fundamental driving force of evolution is introduced. Mutation is modeled as a fitness updating cellular automaton process where the change in fitness after mutation follows a Gaussian distribution with mean x > 0 and standard deviation σ. Scaling behaviors are observed in our numerical simulation, indicating that the model is self-organized critical. Besides, the numerical experiment suggests that models with different x and σ belong to the same universality class. Evolution models with extremal dynamics

The random-neighbor version of the Bak-Sneppen biological evolution model is reproduced, along with an analogous model of random replicators, the latter eventually experiencing topology changes. In the absence of topology changes, both types of models self-organize to a critical state. Species extinctions in the replicator system degenerates the self-organization to a random walk, as does vanis...

Evolution of self-organized systems.

In this paper I ask questions about the evolution of self-organized activity cycles that are found in some ant colonies. I use a computer model that generates periodic activity patterns in interacting subunits and explore the parameters of this model using a genetic algorithm in which selecting on one aspect of the system produces the distinctive self-organized pattern. The general point that I...

Self Organization of Interacting Polya

We introduce a simple model which shows non-trivial self organized critical properties. The model describes a system of interacting units, modelled by Polya urns, subject to perturbations and which occasionally break down. Three equivalent formulations-stochastic, quenched and deterministic-are shown to reproduce the same dynamics. Among the novel features of the model are a non-homogeneous sta...

Self-Organized Criticality in the Model of Biological Evolution Describing Interaction of"Coenophilous"and"Coenophobous"Species

The modification of the model of P.Bak and K.Sneppen of the self-organized biological evolution is proposed on the basis of a formalization of the scheme of the biosphere evolution suggested by O.V.Kovalev. This scheme is regarded as one approximating the realistic model of the ecosystem evolution. The fundamental difference between ”coenophilous” species and ”coenophobous” ones in respect to t...

Self-Organized Criticality in Phylogenetic-Like Tree Growths

A simple stocllastic model of Darwinistic evolution generating pllylogenetic-like trees is developed. Tlle model is based on a branclling process taking competition-correlation effects into account. On a geological-lik...
